My way

by Naomi Nina

For the first time in a while I've been able to heal without moving and it's been bittersweet.

Some days are real easy

Easy because I can see the changes that I'm making.

I can see peace wash all over my face.

I can see how gentle my love is towards my body.

I can tell how forgiveness rolls off of my tongue every time I tell my mom I love her.

But most days are hard,

It's hard because I can no longer hide behind my purpose

My purpose in helping others heal.

Helping others find their way

All I have is myself,

And shit is fucking difficult trying to find my way.

I am Naomi Nina, next known as Nina Hues, the poet, spoken word artist, and newly published author.  My art is gritty, it's raw, it always has a sense of home in it; a Caribbean, Queer, Woman from Brooklyn, NY.  Having the ability to create for the rest of my life doesn't only give me a way to express my deepest emotions, it also allows me to give birth to a new self every time.
